State Department: US sees no immediate threat to Moldova from Transnistria

First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Derek Hogan said that the United States does not see a direct threat to Moldova from the unrecognized Transnistria. It is reported by TASS.

“We do not see any immediate danger from Transnistria and believe that passing information to the Moldovan government, talking publicly about Russia’s actions and continuing to support the Republic of Moldova are a solid foundation,” Hogan said.

He stressed that work is currently underway with the US Congress to unblock another $300 million to provide assistance to Moldova in the field of energy. He added that on Wednesday, March 15, he will leave for Chisinau.

Earlier, the head of the General Commissariat of Police of Moldova, Viorel Cernautanu, said that Moldovan law enforcement officers uncovered a “pro-Russian intelligence network”, whose activities were allegedly aimed at destabilizing the republic.

According to him, the head of the General Commissariat of the Moldovan Police, the network is controlled by the Russian side, its members arrived from the Russian Federation to Moldova "with a very specific purpose."
