Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev in his Telegram channel commented on the pressure of the European Union on Georgia in connection with the possible resumption of flights with Russia.

“This is what a complete loss of sovereignty looks like. This is what geopolitical slavery looks like, if anyone else doubted, ”the senator wrote on Telegram.

According to him, "free cheese is only in a mousetrap", where Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova got "with their European aspirations."

Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council committee on international affairs, in turn, called it quite expected that the West is now "beginning to twist the arms" of Tbilisi "about too calm relations" with Moscow.

“These are the new rules of the game in international affairs, regardless of history, geography and states' own preferences. Washington has decided - do it! — the politician wrote in his Telegram channel.

Earlier, EU external relations spokesman Peter Stano said that Georgia must comply with aviation sanctions against Russia imposed by the EU. He warned the Georgian authorities that the EU sanctions regime provides for secondary sanctions against those who support bypassing anti-Russian restrictions.

Diplomatic relations between Russia and Georgia were severed at the initiative of Georgia after Russia recognized the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on August 26, 2008. Interaction between countries takes place through the Geneva discussions. At the same time, since 2019, Russia has temporarily stopped air communication with Georgia due to protests in Tbilisi against the visit of Russian deputies.
