Members of the UN Security Council did not support the United States' desire to invade Iraq, and this angered Washington, former Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri said. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The commentary is timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the meeting of the Security Council, at which former US Secretary of State Colin Powell showed a test tube allegedly proving the legitimacy of the operation in Iraq.

According to Kasuri, the UN Security Council then did not support the American side.

“We felt that if we did not really take a firm stand, another danger would arise: this would give countries the right to pre-emptive strikes in the future ...,” Kasuri emphasized.

He drew attention to the fact that a different decision, when the US supported, could lead to serious international instability.

“Actually, I remember that the Americans were very angry, especially at France...,” the former prime minister of Pakistan stressed.

Earlier, the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, called for the topic of “Powell's tubes” to be raised again at the UN site.
