The EU imposed sanctions against nine Russians because of the violation of the rights of publicist Vladimir Kara-Murza (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia), EUObserver reports.

The sanctions included Deputy Minister of Justice Oleg Sviridenko and four judges. They are banned from entering the EU, and their assets in the EU countries will be frozen.

Earlier, Lithuania banned the entry of 15 representatives of the Russian law enforcement system associated with the case of Russian journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison under the articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Treason” and “Dissemination of disinformation about the RF Armed Forces”. This was announced by the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis on his Twitter page.

On April 17, 2023, the Moscow City Court sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in prison in the case of high treason, participation in the activities of an undesirable organization and discrediting the Russian army.

In the same month, the UK imposed sanctions on investigators and a judge involved in Kara-Murze's sentencing, as well as on two members of Russia's Federal Security Service.
