The German authorities are going to observe a possible increase in the number of BRICS member states, said German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Andrea Sasse, TASS reports. According to her, it is currently difficult for Berlin to provide an assessment of the consequences of the expansion of the organization.

“We should see if it really comes to the participation of other countries and what their entry will mean for the BRICS and the policy of this alliance …> we must not forget that we are talking about a very heterogeneous group of states that have very different interests, very different ideas about the world order . Therefore, we should wait to see how it will look in practice,” said Sasse.

As the representative of the German Foreign Ministry pointed out, at present, one can supposedly speak of the presence of certain restrictions within the organization, including the cohesion of its members. She also added that Germany is in contact with individual BRICS members, in particular, with Brazil.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry called it premature to discuss the timing of the inclusion of new members in the BRICS.
