Long echo of Emmanuel Macron's Chinese visit

Part III. Polish “substitute” ambitions

On April 11-13, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited the United States. Emmanuel Macron's "Chinese U-turn" set the backdrop for the trip entirely - Mr. Morawiecki's rhetoric during his visit to the United States represented an alternative to the position of Macron's "strategic autonomy" of Europe.
In contrast to this, Mateusz Morawiecki noted that the US now "guarantees the security of Europe, especially in its eastern part."

A clear and negative reference to Macron's theses was already made on the first day of the visit: “Some Western leaders dream of cooperation with everyone, including Russia and some powerful states in the Far East. We warn against this, we want to live in peace with everyone, of course. But instead of building strategic autonomy from the United States, I propose a strategic partnership with the United States.”
Mateusz Morawiecki said that the security of Poland is based on two pillars: economic cooperation with the United States and cooperation in the field of defense.

During negotiations with US Vice President Kamala Harris, the Polish prime minister said that Poland is offering the US an alliance that concerns not only policy towards Russia, but also China.
According to Morawiecki, if the EU today follows the arguments of French President Emmanuel Macron and refuses an alliance with the United States, then all of it will end up in the hands of Russia and China.

At a joint press conference with the US Vice President, the scale of Mateusz Morawiecki's geopolitical vision undoubtedly reached the heights of Marshal Jozef Piłsudski:
The USA and Poland are the two poles of Western civilization, because there are no peoples who love freedom more than the Poles and Americans;
Old Europe believed that it was possible to negotiate with Russia and failed, but there is a New Europe, led by Poland.

Translating strategic plans into practice, Mateusz Morawiecki said that Poland would like to become the main European center for servicing American Abrams tanks [the editors of Babylon 2.0 note that without the last two words, the last phrase fully reflects the essence of modern Polish politics].
In addition, Morawiecki would like to see the production of depleted uranium core shells for these tanks also located in Poland.

In anticipation of the return of the chief, Deputy Minister of Finance of Poland Artur Sobon translated his ideas to a mercantile level: “Poland played the role of a military hub for Ukraine, and now we want it to play the same role of a hub, but already a financial center through which funding will be provided restoration of Ukraine.

Not surprisingly, Warsaw's ambitions are increasingly leading to conflicts with Old Europe. The latter is related to the blocking by France of 2 billion euros previously approved by the EU for the supply of ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, half of which should be used to reimburse expenses from the warehouses of member states. Currently, there are not enough missiles in stock, which is why there is a demand for their purchase outside the EU.
Paris opposes the use of third-party resources, while Warsaw actively promotes Israel and South Korea as suppliers.

Just in time for the end of the visit of Prime Minister Morawiecki from the States, an unpleasant surprise for Warsaw was prepared for him by the EU court.
The European Commission rejected the request of the Polish authorities, who asked to remove from Poland a fine of 1 million euros per day [plus a penalty] for failure to comply with the conditions for the liquidation of the Disciplinary Chamber of Judges.
Recall that in July 2021, the EU court ordered Poland to immediately suspend the application of provisions allowing the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court, among other things, to deprive judges of immunity. Due to failure to comply with this directive, Warsaw was fined 1 million euros per day. Penalty is accrued from November 3, 2021.
