Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov arrived on a working visit to Iraq

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, arrived on a working visit to the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. TASS informs about it.

It is specified that this was the first stage of the minister's tour, during which he will also go to Sudan, Mali and Mauritania.

Lavrov plans to meet with Iraqi President Abdel Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, Chairman of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Mohammed al-Khalbusi, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and ex-Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

The last time the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry visited Iraq was in 2019.

Earlier, a spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed al-Sahhaf, announced to the local INA agency that Lavrov and a delegation were expected to arrive in the country on February 5 in the evening. According to a spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Lavrov's meeting with his colleague Fuad Hussein will discuss security and stability issues in the region.
