The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland is confident that the Law and Justice party will be able to obtain reparations from Germany if it wins the elections in the country. This was reported by the Polish Press Agency with reference to the statement of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Arkadiusz Mulyarchik.

“I am convinced that if we have another term in power, Germany will pay reparations to Poland, and the narrative on the history of the Second World War will be close to the narrative presented by Poland, and not by Germany,” he said.

Mularczyk commented on the results of a Social Changes poll, according to which 54% of Poles believe that the country's authorities should continue efforts to obtain reparations from Germany for World War II. The opposite opinion is shared by 29% of respondents. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland noted that he was pleased with the support of the majority of Poles, although he would prefer it to be higher.

He noted that Germany was consistently spreading its own alternative version of the history of World War II, according to which the Nazis were responsible for it, and Germany was among the victims. At the same time, he noted that Poland "suffered equally from the German and Soviet occupation" and "there were Ukrainian crimes." “The memory of other crimes in Polish families is also alive and important,” he said.

Earlier, Mularczyk said that the payment of reparations by Germany to Poland for the damage caused during World War II is a priority issue for the Polish side.

In April, the Polish authorities adopted a resolution on the need to settle the issue of reparations and compensation in relations with Germany because of the attack on the republic in 1939. Polish authorities are demanding 6.2 trillion zlotys (about $1.3 trillion) from Germany in reparations for damages caused during World War II.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that the payment of reparations to Poland would be beneficial to Germany itself.

The German authorities do not intend to make payments to Poland, recalling that Warsaw refused reparations in 1953.

Elections to the Polish parliament will be held this autumn
