European Parliament Rapporteur on Serbia Vladimir Bilchik and Member of the Committee for Stabilization and Association with the EU Candidate Countries Manyaj Nemec called on Kosovo's Serbian population to return to its power structures during a two-day visit to Belgrade. This is reported by the Serbian edition of "Nova".

During the visit to Serbia, the EU representatives met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and the country's opposition leaders.

“There should be no violence, there should be no attacks on KFOR (NATO mission in Kosovo, 30 members of which were injured during recent protests. - Gazeta.Ru). ..> If the situation worsens, the responsibility will lie on both sides. Space must be created for dialogue and new elections. I hope that the Serbs will return to the institutions [of power in Kosovo],” Bilchik told reporters.

The MEP stressed that the situation in Kosovo has changed, so new elections must be held in the Serb-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo.

Prior to this, the Serbian population and parties boycotted the partial local elections in northern Kosovo on 23 April, which led to the victory of the Albanian candidates. Their arrival at city halls led to protests and violence on May 29, in which about 100 people were injured.

Earlier, the head of the NATO mission in Kosovo KFOR, Angelo Michele Ristuccia, called it a mistake that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti appointed Albanians as heads of municipalities in the Serb-majority province without consulting international partners.
