British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, during his upcoming visit to the United States, will ask the US Joe Biden to support the candidacy of British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace for the post of new NATO Secretary General. This is reported by the British newspaper The Telegraph, reports RIA Novosti.

Rishi Sunak will use his trip to Washington this week to convince Joe Biden to support the UK Defense Secretary for a top NATO post.

According to the newspaper, the British Prime Minister has already raised this topic on the sidelines of the recent meeting of the leaders of the "Big Seven" (G7) in Hiroshima.

Ben Wallace, the article says, is quite popular in the US due to his central role in building an international coalition of support for Ukraine and boosting UK defense spending to 2.25%. At the same time, the material also indicates that France and Germany may not support his candidacy for the post of Secretary General of the alliance, and some countries of the bloc may support the candidacy of the "first woman" as a potential new head of NATO in the person of Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

As expected, the name of the new NATO Secretary General may become known in July.

In May, the head of the British Ministry of Defense, Ben Wallace, said that he would be happy to become the new Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance.
