NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, after a meeting with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan behind closed doors, expressed gratitude to the Turkish authorities for the decision to send troops to Kosovo due to unrest in the unrecognized state. It is reported by Anadolu.

“I thank Turkey for sending reinforcements to northern Kosovo after the recent unrest in the region,” the NATO Secretary General said.

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that the country had begun deploying a battalion of special forces in Kosovo. With a request for this, NATO turned to Ankara.

On June 1, Stoltenberg announced that 700 troops were moving into Kosovo to reinforce the existing NATO mission in the province of KFOR after a shooting brawl at a demonstration of the Serbian minority in Zvecan, during which about a hundred people were injured.
