Starliner's first manned test flight to the ISS has been postponed

The first test manned flight of the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) was postponed due to problems with the components of the device. This was announced by Mark Nappi, director of the spacecraft development program at Boeing Corporation, Interfax reports.

According to him, the reason for the cancellation of the launch, which was planned to take place on July 21, was the high flammability of the insulating coating of the wiring, as well as the discovered problems with the Starliner parachute system.

“We have made the decision to suspend preparations for the first crewed test flight to address these issues,” Nappi said during a US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) teleconference.

He added that over the next five to seven days, experts will determine steps to eliminate the problems, decide whether it is necessary to disassemble the Starliner for this, and also indicate the time frame for preparing the ship for the next launch attempt.

A Boeing spokesman noted that a mission in 2023 is possible, but he is not ready to give a specific date.

In May, NASA and Boeing said in a joint statement that mission certification was 95 percent complete. The parties assured that they continue to prepare for the mission scheduled for July, despite "emerging problems" and concerns raised by the security commission.
