If the opposition wins the upcoming presidential elections in Turkey, it will remind Russia of the republic's membership in NATO. This was stated by the adviser of the candidate from the six-party alliance of Turkish opposition parties Kemal Kılıçdaroglu - Unal Ceviköz in an interview with Politico, his words are quoted by the Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak.

Ceviköz stressed that in negotiations with Russia, the opposition intends to strive for equal relations, but it will also remind the Russian side that Turkey is a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

At the same time, he stressed that the republic will continue to act as an intermediary between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.

Cheviköz also said that the opposition does not intend to prevent Sweden and Finland from joining NATO.

Earlier it was reported that Kilicdaroglu overtakes Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in terms of voter support a few months before the presidential elections.

On May 14, presidential elections will be held in Turkey. The second round, if needed, has been scheduled by the country's Higher Electoral Commission for May 28.
