Honduran President Siomara Castro said that the country's government has decided to establish diplomatic relations with China, which are absent between them due to the Central American Republic's recognition of Taiwan's sovereignty. She wrote about this on her Twitter.

"I have instructed Foreign Minister Eduardo Reina to carry out the work of establishing official relations with the People's Republic of China, this will be a confirmation of my intention to implement the government's plan and freely expand contacts with the peoples of the world," Castro wrote.

Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China is going to steadily advance the process of reunification with Taiwan. He made the corresponding statement at the closing ceremony of the first session of the National People's Congress (NPC, the country's parliament) of the 14th convocation.

Xi Jinping also pointed out that we should "firmly adhere to the One China principle and abide by the 1992 consensus, vigorously promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, and resolutely oppose foreign interference and separatist activities aimed at "Taiwan independence."
