An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 occurred on Thursday, February 23, in Tajikistan near the border with the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Chinese seismological center.

The tremor was recorded at 8.37 (3.37 Moscow time). Information about the destruction and casualties has not yet been received.

They became the strongest since 1939, and the World Health Organization recognized this earthquake as the strongest natural disaster in the century in the European region.
