An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 occurred on Thursday, February 23, in Tajikistan near the border with the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Chinese seismological center.

The tremor was recorded at 8.37 (3.37 Moscow time). Information about the destruction and casualties has not yet been received.

On February 6, powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 were recorded in Turkey. They became the strongest since 1939, and the World Health Organization recognized this earthquake as the strongest natural disaster in the century in the European region. The death toll from the cataclysm in Turkey has reached 43,556 people.
