Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov was fined a second time for using the Russian language on social media. This was reported by the publication "Ukrainian News".

“The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Taras Kremen fined (...) Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov for using a non-state language on the official page on the social network Facebook (a social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation) and the Telegram messenger” , the message says.

It is specified that the amount of the fine amounted to 3400 hryvnia (about 7 thousand rubles). As noted, the mayor violated the law of the republic "On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language."

Earlier, Terekhov sued the language ombudsman over a fine for using the Russian language. The mayor was outraged by the requirement to communicate with the population in Ukrainian, although 80 percent of Kharkiv residents are Russian speakers. At the same time, he agreed to speak the state language in an official setting. Kremen got Terekhov fined for speaking Russian during the Ukrainian national telethon in November 2022. At the same time, he was issued a warning for publishing messages on social networks on behalf of the mayor of the city in a non-state language.
