Russia hopes that US President Joe Biden will call on the head of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to start peace talks. So in a conversation with Lenta.ru, Svetlana Zhurova, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, reacted to the visit of the American leader to Kyiv.

“Judging by the rhetoric, Kyiv wants to be sanctioned for an attack on Crimea. I understand that the United States does not give its consent to this. They can discuss it. Perhaps Biden will call for peace talks in some way. The worst option, on the contrary, will announce large-scale financial and military assistance, ”the deputy suggested.

US President Joe Biden arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit on February 20. Local media published footage of his meeting with Vladimir Zelensky on the streets of the Ukrainian capital.

Later, the Ukrainian leader himself confirmed the visit of his American colleague by posting a joint photo on his Telegram channel. “Joseph Biden, welcome to Kyiv! Your visit is a very important manifestation of support for all Ukrainians,” he wrote.
