The Moldovan police began detaining citizens in the south of the republic who were heading to protests in Chisinau. This was stated by the vice-chairman of the Moldovan opposition party "Shor" Marina Tauber, reports TASS.

“The police detained about a thousand of our supporters near Cimislia, who were traveling by bus and car to Chisinau to participate in the protest, they are also detained in other places at the entrance to the capital,” the politician noted.

According to her, the authorities are allegedly trying to prevent riots and "assaults" of the parliament in this way. “People who are protesting against the highest inflation rate in Europe, utility bills that they are unable to pay, the authorities are not allowed to protest, arrange provocations, spread rumors,” Tauber said, stressing that the protest is peaceful.

Earlier, eight people were detained in Moldova, suspected of illegally financing the opposition Shor party. The security forces seized more than 240 thousand dollars, which were intended for the heads of the territorial divisions of parties and activists, as well as to finance the participation of citizens in protests.

In addition, law enforcement officers detained eight people who are suspected of complicity in obtaining finance for the Shor party.
