Named a way to increase the efficiency of burning fat during sports

An international team of scientists from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and the University of Copenhagen in Denmark have named a way to increase the efficiency of fat burning when playing sports. According to them, physical activity in the morning increases metabolism. The results of the work are described in the journal PNAS.

It is known that physical activity at different times of the day can affect the body in different ways, since biological processes depend on the circadian rhythms of cells.

During the study, the authors forced laboratory mice to perform high-intensity exercises that were performed twice a day. All sessions involved either the active or early phase of rest, which corresponded to morning and evening sports sessions in humans. The focus was on various biomarkers of fat metabolism and which genes were active in adipose tissue after exercise.

It turned out that physical activity in the late morning increases the expression of genes involved in the breakdown of adipose tissue, heat production and mitochondria in adipose tissue, which as a result speeds up the metabolism of this substance.

In the future, it is planned to test whether such conclusions are applicable to humans. Despite the fact that physiologically mice and humans have much in common, these rodents are nocturnal, so it’s not certain that the discovery will work in humans the same way.
