Virgin Orbit clarifies the circumstances of the failed launch of LauncherOne

05:35 16.02.2023 Science

During the last failed launch, LauncherOne's rocket engine was not getting enough fuel. SpaceNews reports this with reference to Virgin Orbit.

The company's CEO Dan Hart said that the fuel filter of the NewtonFour engine of the second stage of the rocket was displaced, as a result of which little fuel was supplied to the power unit. In turn, this led to the fact that NewtonFour began to work at elevated temperatures, as a result of which a number of engine components failed.

Virgin Orbit noted that the investigation into the causes of the incident continues.

In February, Hart said that the reason for the failed LauncherOne rocket launch in January was an inexpensive part.

The unsuccessful launch of a two-stage LauncherOne rocket from a Boeing 747 carrier aircraft, launched from the UK, occurred on January 9th.
