Russia has developed a state-of-the-art reconnaissance complex capable of detecting a person at a record distance using a laser beam. This was reported to RIA Novosti by a source in the military-industrial complex.

“The laser is directed, reflected, returned, fixed. A person is identified at a distance of up to 18 kilometers,” the source said. He noted that the reconnaissance, detection and target designation complex was developed on the basis of solutions worked out during the creation and operation of the Ironia wearable optoelectronic complex. The new product has improved performance and expanded functionality.

In December, it was reported that the Russian military in the Kupyansk sector was using Ironia to target and shoot strikes in the Special Military Operation (SVO) zone. Then a special-purpose fighter of the Western Military District explained that the complex was designed to observe and collect information about the area, it allows scouts to identify various objects, and also helps to direct and adjust artillery and aircraft.

Irony was first reported in 2019. Then the media demonstrated a device with three lenses - a video camera, a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder. It was explained that the complex allows scouts to view the area at distances up to ten kilometers at any time of the day.
