The first strategic missile carrier Tu-160M built in Russia from scratch under the program to resume production was named "Valentina Tereshkova". This was announced by the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC, part of the Rostec state corporation) Yuri Slyusar, TASS reports.

“The first built Tu-160M aircraft was named after Valentina Tereshkova,” he said at the international aerospace exhibition Aero India 2023.

It is noted that traditionally Tu-160 missile carriers are named after prominent people from the field of aviation. In 2022, Valentina Tereshkova celebrated her anniversary.

In December 2022, the Rostec State Corporation announced that the modernized combatant Tu-160M and the first aircraft manufactured under the Tu-160M reproduction program were transferred to the flight test station.

In the same month, it became known that the first Tu-160M built in Russia from scratch completed the factory test program. In December, the next flight of the aircraft took place. The first flight of the missile carrier took place in January 2022.
