Syrian President Bashar al-Assad holds an emergency government meeting in connection with a major earthquake in the country. This was reported by the office of the head of state, reports RIA Novosti.

The politicians will discuss the damage from the earthquake and the measures that need to be taken.

Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Health reported that the number of victims of a powerful earthquake in the north of the country increased to 111 people, more than 500 people were injured. Earthquakes occurred in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and Tartus.

According to the Al Hadath TV channel, 400 people were removed from the rubble.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 also struck Turkey. The epicenter was the Pazarchik district in Kahramanmarash. The highest level of alarm was declared in the republic. According to the latest data, 76 people died in Turkey as a result of the earthquake.
