The leader of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Rolf Mutzenich, called for support for the proposal of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to create a new format for a settlement in Ukraine. He said this on the air of the ARD TV channel.

According to Mutzenich, any initiative that could help resolve the conflict in Ukraine should be supported. In his opinion, the longer the hostilities continue, the more difficult it will be for the parties to start negotiations.

"That's why Brazil's statement is important, but now other countries should join in," Mützenich said.

On January 30, during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Lula da Silva proposed the creation of a new international format to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which would be similar to the G20. According to the Brazilian head, China, India and Indonesia can also play an important role in such negotiations.

Before that, Lula da Silva said that the Brazilian authorities did not intend to transfer weapons and ammunition to third countries, which could later be used in the conflict in Ukraine. According to the president, "Brazil is a peaceful country and therefore does not want to participate in any way, even indirectly" in any conflict. The head of state also called for looking for mediators to achieve peace in Ukraine.
