The incident with a Chinese balloon in US airspace has reduced the likelihood of a reset in relations between Washington and Beijing. It is reported by the Financial Times with reference to experts.

According to Bonnie Glaser, an employee of the American think tank German Marshall Fund, the window of opportunity for directing Sino-US relations on a sustainable development path, which US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping previously agreed on, may be lost.

Glaser believes that "we should not underestimate" the impact of the probe incident on the future development of relations between the two countries.

According to a source in the US presidential administration for the FT, Chinese authorities have "completely undermined" US attempts to establish bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, said that a Chinese balloon shot down by the US military was used to monitor US strategic facilities.

Prior to this, NBC, citing Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder, reported that the US military has been tracking a suspected Chinese reconnaissance balloon over the north of the country over the past few days. Ryder later claimed that the appearance of a Chinese probe in US airspace violated international law.
