US Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttejage did not rule out the possibility of imposing sanctions against China in connection with the situation with the Chinese balloon. It is reported by CNN.

“The US has made it clear that this is an unacceptable violation of American sovereignty. I think you can expect that any further developments will be appropriate in response to what happened,” he said, answering a related question from a journalist about the possibility of imposing sanctions against the Chinese side.

Earlier, the Chinese Ministry of Defense said that the use of US military force against the Chinese balloon is "an overreaction." The ministry also protested the US actions and stressed that China reserves the right to take further necessary action.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called the China weather balloon incident a "violation of US sovereignty." He canceled his visit to Beijing.
