The staff of the Saudi Arabian embassy left Afghanistan and returned to the kingdom. The Afghan newspaper Hasht e Subh writes about this, citing an unnamed source.

According to him, on February 1, the Afghan airline Kam Air performed a flight from Kabul to Riyadh, representatives of the Saudi diplomatic department were on board the aircraft.

According to the source, the departure of the diplomatic mission staff could be a response to the decision of supporters of the radical Taliban movement (the organization is banned in Russia), which seized power in Afghanistan, to prohibit the embassy employees from performing their professional duties. He also allowed. that diplomatic workers could be evacuated for security reasons.

Earlier, UN Deputy Special Envoy to Afghanistan Markus Potzel said that the West has interests in the republic, including the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking. According to him, therefore, Western countries should return their missions to Kabul.

As the UN representative pointed out, the presence of Western diplomats in Kabul will not necessarily mean recognition of the new authorities, including representatives of the Taliban group (an organization banned in Russia). He also stressed that one emergency aid to Afghanistan is not enough.
