NYT: long conflict in Ukraine will lead to global catastrophe

Ross Dutat, a columnist for The New York Times, argues that a prolonged conflict in Ukraine will have dire consequences for the West and the whole world.

In his opinion, a protracted conflict will be beneficial to Ukraine and the United States, in reality it will cost Kyiv and the West dearly, and they will have to pay for it not only with money, but also with the lives of many people.

He stressed that this could lead not only to a war between the North Atlantic Alliance and the Russian Federation, as well as to a nuclear conflict, but also to a difficult economic and demographic state of post-war Ukraine. This will harm the global economy and affect the energy and food sectors.

“And after a protracted conflict, America will be ill-prepared for both the threats from China and any other surprises that this century may yet bring,” Dutat said.

Earlier it became known that the administration of US President Joe Biden changed the strategy for Ukraine in order to quickly resolve the conflict with Russia.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
