German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commenting on Ukraine's possible membership in the European Union, said that all states wishing to join the European Union must first comply with the criteria of the rule of law, respect for human rights, democracy and the fight against corruption. Scholz said this in an interview with Bild am Sonntag.

The German Chancellor noted that the “strong signal” was that in the summer of 2022 “we made Moldova and Ukraine candidate countries.”

“Each candidate must meet the necessary criteria to become a member of the European Union - this concerns the rule of law, democracy, respect for human rights and the fight against corruption,” Scholz said, answering the question whether Ukraine's accession to the European Union is realistic before the end of next year. .

The chancellor pointed out that the conditions for joining the EU are "the same for all".

Earlier, the French politician, ex-MP Florian Filippo said that the admission of Ukraine to the EU would only weaken Europe and only serve the interests of the United States.
