Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf dies

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf died at the age of 79 on February 5 in a hospital in Dubai after a long illness, Geo News reported, citing family members of the deceased.

It is reported that Musharraf was hospitalized due to a complication of amyloidosis, a disease in which the body's metabolism fails.

Pervez Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943 in Delhi, which at that time was part of the British colonies. After the secession of Pakistan, his family moved to the city of Karachi. He was promoted to General in 1991, and in 1998 became Chief of the General Staff, after which he became Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Pakistan and Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Army.

On December 17, 2019, a Pakistani court handed down the death sentence for former President Pervez Musharraf.
