The US Congress was warned last month about foreign air surveillance incidents. This is reported by The New York Times, citing officials.

The incidents were discussed in a secret report to Congress, officials said.

A secret report to Congress last month discussed at least two incidents of a rival power conducting aerial surveillance using allegedly unknown advanced technology.

According to the NYT, the report did not name a specific country, while two U.S. officials familiar with the study suggest that the observation was carried out by China.

According to the newspaper, the secret report mentioned the US Naval Air Station Fallon in Nevada and the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Japan as places where foreign surveillance was allegedly carried out.

Since 2021, the Pentagon has looked into several incidents involving advanced reconnaissance balloons, but none of them have conducted ongoing reconnaissance of US military bases since spy balloons are relatively simple devices for collecting information, and other balloons did not stay long over the territory of the United States, and did not cause much concern among the military and intelligence agencies.

Earlier, the Pentagon said it examined the equipment "on a downed Chinese balloon, which is considered reconnaissance.
