The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the results of the Ukraine-EU summit held in Kyiv, said that the statements of the participants in this event cross out the principles on which the EU was once built. The statement was published on the ministry's website.

The diplomat noted that the summit once again confirmed that the EU continues to "support the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv" for the sake of weakening Russia and serving the "hegemonic aspirations of the US and NATO." The European Alliance promises Ukraine a European perspective, declares a “community of values”, and also expresses “commitment to full respect for the rights of persons belonging to minorities.” But at the same time, the EU shows solidarity “with the total suppression of dissent, trampling on freedom of speech and expression” and “gross violation of linguistic and confessional rights in Ukraine”, which crosses out the fundamental principles of the European Union, the Foreign Ministry spokesman says.

The EU statements about peace and readiness to invest as much money as necessary in the continuation of hostilities and the supply of weapons to Kyiv are also hypocritical, Zakharova drew attention. She stressed that, to the disappointment of European politicians, the goals and objectives of the Russian special operation would be achieved.

The main topic of the last summit was Ukraine's accession to the EU. At the event, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the country's accession to the European Union will depend on how successful its preparation for this step will be.

According to the author of The Guardian, Europoliticians intend to "cool the expectations" of Ukraine regarding membership in the community.
