Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh will veto a law banning users from posting information about public officials online without the consent of the government. This was announced by his press secretary and head of the media department of the Office of the President Olziybayaryn Zolbayar on Twitter, RIA Novosti reports.

“The President of Mongolia will veto the law on the protection of human rights in social networks,” the agency quoted him as saying.

According to the agency, Khurelsukh's veto can still be overcome by the Mongolian parliament.

On January 20, the State Great Khural adopted the Law on the Protection of Human Rights in Social Media. Under the law, any information about officials shared with an online group of more than three people must be subject to verification.

The law should come into force on February 1, unless rejected by the president.

In December, mass protests took place in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, in connection with large-scale theft of coal exported to China.

Earlier, Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrein Oyuun-Erdene proposed a constitutional reform in the country in order to establish a classical parliamentary republic.
