The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has removed from its Twitter account a post about the birthday of Ukrainian nationalist leader Stepan Bandera. This happened after a wave of indignation raised in Poland because of the publication, the correspondent of RIA Novosti drew attention.

It is noted that the post on the 114th anniversary of the birth of Bandera was published on the Twitter account of the Ukrainian Parliament on January 1. Attached to the post was a photo of Valeriy Zaluzhny, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), in front of a portrait of the Ukrainian nationalist leader.

After that, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki expressed dissatisfaction with the celebration of Bandera's birthday in Ukraine. He also said that he had talked on this topic with his Ukrainian colleague Denis Shmygal. As a result, the publication about the birthday of the nationalist was removed from the Twitter account of the Verkhovna Rada.

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mulyarchik told Polskie Radio 24 that the deletion of the recording is a sign that "Ukrainians have finally listened to the voice" of Warsaw. He also recalled that Bandera was "the ideologist of Ukrainian nationalists who killed tens of thousands of Poles in Volhynia."

Stepan Bandera was the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN, an extremist organization banned in Russia), which operated mainly in Western Ukraine. He worked closely with Nazi Germany. In 1959, the nationalist was killed in Munich by KGB agent Bogdan Stashinsky.
