38 years ago, one of the greatest man-made disasters of the 20th century occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

On April 26, 1986, at 1:23 a.m., an explosion occurred at the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, resulting in the destruction of part of the reactor block and the turbine room.

The power of the radioactive release was 50 million curies, which is equivalent to the explosion of 500 atomic bombs.

The explosion caused a fire that spread to the roof of the third power unit. After the explosion and fire, a radioactive cloud formed, covering the territories of Ukraine and Belarus.
