President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, during a government meeting with the participation of heads of diplomatic missions, called Russia the main ally of Ashgabat. This is reported by the publication "Neutral Turkmenistan".

The Turkmen leader said that his visit to Russia in June 2022 helped reach agreements on a significant increase in partnership in all areas of cooperation, including trade, transport, agriculture, the financial system, education, medicine and culture.

The United States ranks second in Turkmen foreign policy priorities, Berdimuhamedov said.

In November, it was reported that the United States intended to help the government of Turkmenistan to benefit from sanctions against Russia. As an example, US Assistant Secretary of State at the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu recalled that Russian owners sold their banks in Kazakhstan, closed due to sanctions, to local businessmen. “We will be happy to work with the government of Turkmenistan and the business community to help them get more out of the sanctions regime,” Lu said. He also promised that the country's economy would not face high risks.
