Lithuanian instructors will train a battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) as part of the European Union (EU) program providing military assistance to Kyiv. This was stated by the commander of the country's army, Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupshis, reports TASS.

“We will manage the training of the Ukrainian battalion, which is planned to be organized in Germany,” he said. Rupshis recalled that Lithuania intends to train 1.5 thousand military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2023.

According to him, the battalion, in which several hundred people serve, is included in this number. The lieutenant general stressed that Vilnius "approaches the matter flexibly", so the number of trained Ukrainian fighters in practice can be large. In 2023, demining courses for military engineers, mechanics and other specialists will also be organized, Rupshis says.

Previously captured Ukrainian paratroopers spoke about training in the UK. One of the military said that they were sent to the country for 20 days. He called the training program "light". At the end of November, the General Staff of Ukraine reported that over 14,000 fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been trained abroad.
