Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the opinion that people who live "higher meanings and higher ideals, devotion to their people", in the conditions of hostilities and in ordinary life, even despite the desire to return to family and friends, leave a sense of self-preservation in the background. The head of state said this during the ceremony of presenting state awards on the occasion of the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland in the Kremlin Palace, TASS reports.

The Russian leader also honored the memory of the heroes who laid down their lives for their homeland. He stressed that we should not forget about them, as well as about those who are now undergoing treatment and recovering strength.

“We wish our children health and well-being. We must never and will never forget about their families, about those close to them, about those who made them heroes — [about their] parents,” Putin said.

Earlier it was reported that President Putin awarded the Orders of Courage to Russian volunteers.
