The USSR is an "integral part" of Russian history. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, answering a question about the possible participation of the administration in the celebration of the centenary of the USSR.

The Kremlin spokesman recalled the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that "a person who has no heart can not regret the collapse of the Union, and only a person without brains can wish for its restoration."

Earlier, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov called the formation of the Soviet Union the main achievement that the country should be proud of. According to him, the USSR saved Russian statehood after "the mediocre tsarist government of Nicholas II dragged us into the First World War for the money of London, Paris and New York and burned the Russian Empire." The politician also believes that the USSR could continue to exist, which is demonstrated by the example of China.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously stated that Russia would not abandon the historical heritage of the USSR and the tsarist empire. He noted that both of these periods had their difficulties, were overcome in different ways and had different consequences.
