Citizens of Russia, Belarus and other countries that do not meet the criteria for European and Euro-Atlantic integration should be prohibited from owning firearms in Lithuania. The corresponding amendment to the law was approved by the committee of the Seimas of the republic on national security and defense. TASS writes about it.

According to the Chairman of the Committee Laurynas Kasciunas, the ban will contribute to the establishment of greater security in the country. “There will be no threat of hostile armed groups appearing in the event of some unrest,” the Lithuanian parliamentarian explained.

The agency clarifies that the ban includes possession of not only weapons, but also ammunition, including those intended for sports and self-defense. If the Seimas approves the amendments, then within a year, weapon owners among citizens of other countries will have to hand it over. Otherwise, the weapons will be confiscated.

Earlier, Lithuania prepared a special questionnaire for Russians and Belarusians wishing to obtain a visa or residence permit in the country. In it, among other things, it will be necessary to indicate their attitude to the situation in Ukraine. According to the Department of Migration at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, the questionnaire will be required to be filled out by all citizens of Russia and Belarus over the age of 18 who apply for a Lithuanian visa, as well as the issuance, replacement or registration of a residence permit in the country.
