Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called illegitimate initiatives on a tribunal against Russia over Ukraine or reparations. The diplomat said this during the Primakov Readings international forum, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, when a month ago the Western states promoted a resolution on reparations, they used "very interesting arguments" in their work with developing countries.

“The UN is being used in the dark,” Lavrov expressed the opinion, noting that they are trying to do the same in the organization with a new idea to create an international tribunal.

“Not a single decision of this kind has any legal force, it is legally null and void and will not impose either on Russia or on any other countries. This is simply discrediting the UN General Assembly, its reputation and functions,” the Russian minister said.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that, according to the UN Charter, only the Security Council can make decisions on the creation of a tribunal to try Russia or on reparations at the expense of Russian assets, while the General Assembly does not have such powers.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the creation of some kind of international tribunal for Ukraine "is on the table."
