The official representative of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, during the briefing, explained why war correspondent Alexander Kots was included in the Russian Presidential Council on Human Rights (HRC).

When asked by a journalist why Kots was included in the HRC right now and whether this was due to the conduct of a special military operation in Ukraine, Peskov replied that there were no radical changes in the composition of the council.

"Why military commander? Because against the backdrop of the development of a special military operation, the phenomenon of military correspondents really took shape. These are heroic journalists, people who see everything from the inside, on the front line, not sparing their lives, covering events. Gradually they turned into repeaters. This is due to the fact that they are now represented in the Council by Alexander Kots," Peskov explained.

Earlier, human rights activist Igor Kalyapin commented on the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on changing the composition of the Human Rights Council (HRC).
