The attempts of the West to turn Belarus into "anti-Russia" by analogy with Ukraine proved to be a failure. This was stated by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, speaking at the media forum "Belarus - Russia: an equal union, a common history, a common future" in TASS.

“Probably, now, after Ukraine, which has already been finally turned into anti-Russia, there is no more desirable prey for our Western opponents than trying to do the same with Belarus. And after all, nothing works. Attempts have been made, but nothing works,” he said.

Kosachev noted that despite external pressure, Belarus remains a fraternal state for Russia. He thanked the country and its people for continuing to "take a hit".

The senator suggested that the West's attempts were unsuccessful because Belarusians and Russians are united by common values and history. “We have an amazing present and, of course, we have a common future,” Kosachev added.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the Belarusian and Russian military are being trained as a single army in order to fight back in the event of an attack.
