Mongolian Parliament intends to reveal the names of those responsible for stealing coal

The Mongolian Parliament, amid protests in Ulaanbaatar, will hold hearings on the theft of coal and name the perpetrators. This was announced by the chairman of the Great Khural Gombojavyn Zandanshatar, his words are quoted by the Mass TV channel.

“The Great Khural will hold open hearings on the case of coal theft. At open hearings, the names of the officials involved in this case will be disclosed to the public,” Zandanshatar said.

He added that "anyone who is involved in the theft of national wealth should be punished."

Earlier, Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh called on the parliament to hold open hearings on coal issues and inform citizens about the situation, RIA Novosti reported.

Mass demonstrations are taking place in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, due to a scandal over the theft of export coal. The protesters demand that the government and the president name "the thieves who stole 44 trillion tugriks ($12.9 billion) of coal."

Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrein Oyuun-Erdene said he was not going to dissolve the parliament and government amid protests.
