Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, commenting on the draft US defense budget, which amounted to a record $858 billion, said that one of the points of the Pentagon's draft budget - to achieve Russia's exclusion from the G20 - is unrealistic, RIA Novosti reports.

“Legally, the G20 is not an institutional international organization with formal membership. As you know, this is just an informal summit. For the same reason, the G20 does not have any strict rules of procedure or regulations. Decisions are made by consensus,” Kosachev explained.

He added that in the G20 format, not all countries agree with the position of the United States - despite serious pressure on Indonesia, the United States failed to "isolate" the Russian representatives at the summit. Kosachev notes that this was largely due to the sovereign position of Jakarta.

Earlier in the US Congress, the Pentagon's military budget for fiscal year 2023 was agreed upon at $858 billion.

The text of the draft budget states that the United States will seek Russia's exclusion from international organizations, including the G20.
