Argentina's Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has said she will not run in the 2023 elections due to a corruption conviction. TASS writes about it.

“I will not condemn the political force that honored me with its nomination twice for the presidency and once for the post of vice president to bullying because of a convicted candidate,” Kirchner said in a video message that was broadcast on her Twitter page .

The Federal Court of Buenos Aires sentenced the vice president to 6 years in a corruption case and banned her from holding public office. Kirchner has immunity and can still appeal the verdict.

The prosecutor's office asked to sentence the vice president to 12 years in prison. Prosecutor Diego Luciani called the case "the biggest corruption maneuver" in the country's history. He also asked for a lifetime deprivation of all the defendants of the right to hold public office and confiscate $ 1,000 million.

The Argentine government condemned the prosecutor's demand for a prison term for Kirchner, saying that "none of the acts attributed to Kirchner have been proven, and all charges against her relate only to the functions" that she performed when she was president.

Kirchner was President of Argentina from December 2007 to December 2015.
