U.S. Commerce Department chief Gina Raimondo said the United States is overly dependent on goods from individual countries, a shortage of which could significantly destabilize U.S. supply chains. It is reported by Foreign Affairs.

She stressed that working on the disruption of the supply chain and the issue of chips opened her eyes to how vulnerable the States are and are overly dependent on individual countries for specific goods. This will significantly destabilize the US supply chain, the minister stressed.

“At some point, I realized how much we are dependent on China for certain types of goods,” Raimondo said.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, warned of the threat of a new trade war between the EU and the United States due to the American law to reduce inflation.

Von der Leyen added that the law could lead to unfair competition, market closures and the disruption of critical supply chains experienced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier it was reported that the European Parliament called on the European Union in the "coming months" to file a complaint with the WTO because of the US law.
