US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman expressed hope for a return to stability with Russia, but said it was unlikely to happen anytime soon. She announced this during a speech at the Luiss University of Rome, TASS reports.

“Hopefully we can go back to where we can all talk to each other and work together again. But I don't think it will happen anytime soon," she said.

Earlier, the White House said that the United States does not believe that there was a threat to Russia in the run-up to a special military operation in Ukraine. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council John Kirby at a briefing.

Commenting on the statement by French President Emmanuel Macron on security guarantees for Russia, Kirby said that the security of Ukraine in February 2022 "was violated by unprovoked actions."

According to a White House spokesman, Russia's arguments that its security was under threat have "no evidence."
