Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Twitter denied media reports that Budapest blocked the provision of financial assistance to Ukraine from the European Union.

“This is a fake,” Orban wrote, emphasizing that “Hungary is ready to provide financial assistance to Ukraine on a bilateral basis.”

According to him, the country is trying to convince the EU countries that "the common debt of the EU is not a solution", and after it "we will not be able to turn back."

“We see a different future for Europe,” the prime minister emphasized, explaining that it should be built “on strong states,” and not on common debt.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto explained earlier that Budapest only objects to the fact that the general package of assistance for the economic recovery of Ukraine was sent to it in the form of a joint EU soft loan.

Earlier, Politico wrote that Hungary blocked an agreement on an aid package to Ukraine.
