Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó denied reports that his country had blocked financial aid to Ukraine from the EU. He told the M1 TV channel about this.

“Support for Ukraine continues, and I would like to ask you not to spread the news that we have not allowed the European Union to provide assistance to Ukraine,” he said.

According to him, Hungary only objects to the fact that the general package of assistance for the economic recovery of Ukraine was sent to it in the form of a joint EU soft loan.

Earlier, the head of the Hungarian Finance Ministry, Mihaly Varga, said that the country is against the adoption of amendments that would allow Ukraine to receive €18 billion in aid in 2023. He announced this at a meeting of the European Council.

Before that, it was reported that Hungary would continue to block the convening of the Ukraine-NATO Commission at the ministerial level until the Ukrainian authorities returned their legal rights to the ethnic Hungarians of Transcarpathia. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Romanian Bucharest.
